Tech Showcase Will Help Kick Off Museum Conference

Join the New Mexico Association of Museums in Santa Fe November 4-7, 2009, for our Annual Conference. If you're already planning to attend, be sure to show up for the opening night, Wednesday, Nov. 4 when the meeting kicks off with a lively welcome reception and Tech Showcase from 5:30-7:30. At the reception you will be able to network with colleagues from all over the state, tour the museum, and get plugged in to the latest developments in interactive and multimedia exhibitions in New Mexico at the Tech Showcase, from 6:00-7:30.

If you are not registered for the conference and want to attend the Tech Showcase, sign up online at www.nmmuseums.org as a guest for the reception. The cost is $20.

For the third year, the showcase will feature some of the projects developed by the Media Arts Program at New Mexico Highlands University as part of their Cultural Technology partnership with the Department of Cultural Affairs.

In addition, this year’s Showcase will include the latest technologies developed by New Mexico's museums, as well as a few surprises—the multitouch multiuser table developed by the Corrales-based company Ideum; the 3D modeling technology developed by Los Alamos-based New Mexico Virtualization LLC; the New Mexico Centennial Atlas, a recently-launched project of the New Mexico Humanities Council that combines a series of historic maps of the state with interactive technologies of Google Maps; the Simtable, an interactive tool developed by the Santa Fe Complex that combines an old-fashioned sandtable with advanced computer simulations; and “Paint Out”, an interactive virtual graffiti experience developed by the program at Highlands.

Participating museums include:

The meeting marks the 40th year for the New Mexico Association of Museums and the 100th for the Museum of New Mexico. The theme, Celebrating Heritage, offers multiple opportunities to explore topics regarding museum exhibitions, educational programming, events planning, technology, marketing, and research. It also encourages dialogue about our upcoming Centennial Celebration in 2012, and how our institutions can be involved.
