Position Description:
This position reports to the Executive Director of the Museum, with a key liaison role to the Board of Trustees. The Director of Development holds primary responsibility for the Museum’s fund raising activities and is expected to expand the development program and increase the Museum’s contributed revenue.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of three to five years direct experience in a leadership role in development
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with staff and volunteers to achieve goals
- Ability to become part of the larger community and represent the Museum’s interests with a variety of constituents
- Knowledge of state and federal laws and procedures relating to fund raising
- Knowledge of annual giving, major gifts, fund raising events, grant writing, corporate and foundation solicitation, capital campaigns, planned giving
- Superior computer skills, including Power Point
Responsibilities:
- Analyze the current Museum development program and recommend improvements and enhancements to the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees.
- Create a zero-based budget to support the current program and foreseeable improvements.
- Set monetary goals, in consultation with the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees, for each current and new aspect of the program.
- Recruit, or assist the Executive Director in recruiting, appropriate volunteer leadership for each aspect of the program.
- Provide staff support for the Development Committee of the Board, the Turquoise Ball Committee, and for all volunteers working to achieve development goals.
- Prepare proposals and other information for all solicitations.
- Maintain and improve the Museum’s development records and record keeping procedures.
- Review the development policies of the Museum and recommend improvements.
- Provide development records for the annual audit of the Museum.
- Provide regular reports to the Executive Director and Board of Trustees on each aspect of the development program.
